Practice-oriented Educational Activities as a Condition for the Formation of Environmental Culture among Students of a Pedagogical University

Abstract:
The relevance of practice-oriented activities in developing environmental awareness among students at a pedagogical university is driven by global environmental challenges, the need to train competent teachers capable of addressing these issues, and the need to transition from theory to practice in the field of environmental protection and sustainable nature management, which is especially important for future teachers. Purpose of the article. To develop in-depth theoretical knowledge, value systems, and practical skills for environmentally conscious behavior in students at a pedagogical university through active participation in practice-oriented educational activities so that they can effectively impart these competencies to their students and contribute to the sustainable development of society. Research Methodology. The methodological basis of the study is a systems approach and an activity-based approach, integrated through the theory of developing environmental awareness and the concept of practice-oriented learning, which allow us to consider the process of developing environmental awareness as a holistic system. Research Methods. The following methods were used: theoretical; methods of theoretical analysis; modeling of the educational process; empirical; experimental; mathematical (statistical processing of data from a pedagogical experiment); and graphical. Research Results. The paper presents experimental materials reflecting the stage-by-stage development of environmental awareness in future teachers during professional training at a pedagogical university. The first stage determined the students’ initial level of environmental awareness. The second stage focused on developing students’ environmental awareness, and the third stage provided an opportunity to summarize, formalize, and draw conclusions from the experimental results. Conclusion. The presented materials allow us to conclude that developing environmental awareness in future teachers through practice-oriented educational activities is effective because it translates theoretical knowledge into skills, develops a responsible attitude toward nature, and integrates environmental values into everyday life and teaching practice.
