Formation of Students Patriotic Consciousness by Means of the Course “Business Etiquette”

Abstract:
Introduction. The relevance of this study is driven by the need to strengthen traditional Russian spiritual and moral values and to cultivate civic consciousness in higher education institutions. Purpose of the article. To develop and experimentally verify a model for fostering students’ patriotic consciousness within the “Business Etiquette” course. Methodology and methods. The study draws on system-activity, structural-functional, axiological, and culturological approaches. The empirical basis comprises a pedagogical experiment conducted at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), involving 42 fourth-year students majoring in “Service”, divided into an experimental group (n = 21) and a control group (n = 21). Note: for conceptual coherence, the generalized course title “Business Etiquette” is used throughout the paper; however, the empirical testing of the model was carried out within the framework of the academic discipline officially titled “International Protocol and Etiquette: Norms and Rules”, as fixed in the curriculum of the FEFU School of Economics and Management. The methods employed include literature analysis, questionnaire survey, pedagogical observation, and Spearman’s rank correlation analysis. A diagnostic toolkit was used to assess the cognitive, emotional-value, and activity-behavioural components. Results. The implementation of the model revealed a statistically significant increase in all components of patriotic consciousness in the experimental group. The transition from the formal assimilation of norms to their activity-based experiential engagement ensures the internalization of values. Conclusion. The “Business Etiquette” course possesses considerable educative potential. The integration of nationally oriented content and active learning methods transmits Russia’s spiritual and moral code, thereby strengthening students’ civic identity and social responsibility. The model is of particular significance for final-year students, as it shapes their professional identity inextricably linked with a civic stance and a sense of responsibility for the country’s reputation on the international stage.
