Formation and Development of the System of Primary Religious Education of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Period From 1990 to 2015

Abstract: 
The article investigates the problem of formation of the system of primary religious education in Russia. XX-early XXI century in Russia on the example of the formation of educational activities of the Russian Orthodox Church. The purpose of the article is to identify the key factors that determined the development of activity in the sphere of religious education of the ROC, to characterize the main stages and leading directions of the formation of the system of primary Orthodox education in the specified period of time. Methodology. The study was conducted in the context of historical and pedagogical analysis of documents and facts illustrating the activities of the institutions of the Russian Orthodox Church in the field of primary religious education. The characteristic of the stages of formation of the system of primary religious education is based on fixing the decisions of the leadership of the ROC in relation to educational activities aimed at teaching the laity the basics of the Christian faith; the description of the leading directions of development of primary Orthodox education is based on two key factors-the opening of parish Sunday schools and the publication of educational literature for primary religious education. Research result. The paper analyzes the content of primary Orthodox education on the materials presented in the official reports of Sunday school curricula, the content of curricula and manuals published in the studied period of time. In conclusion, conclusions are drawn about the specifics of the formation of the system of primary Orthodox education in this period.
