Abstract:
A high level of intercultural competence is a significant factor of the successful integration of a graduate into the modern intercultural community. Therefore, within the educational framework special attention should be paid to the selection of means for the effective development of intercultural competence. The purpose of the article is to consider the problem of the formation and development of intercultural competence among university students by means of intercultural cases in the framework of the study of the discipline “English as a Foreign Language”. The methodological basis of the study is a systematic approach to the study of complex developing systems; personality-activity approach to the study of pedagogical phenomena and systems; axiological approach; as well as a communicative approach. Within the framework of experimental education with students, diagnostic (interview, content analysis, interpretation of the obtained data, observation) and experimental (ascertaining experiment), and statistical methods (mathematical processing of experimental data) were used. As a result of the analysis of national and foreign studies of models of intercultural competence, its unified structure is proposed, the criteria and indicators of its formation are determined. The material proposes a thematic principle of case selection; we also present a model how to work with cases, as well as stages of competency formation. Finally, we draw a conclusion about the effectiveness of intercultural cases in the formation of intercultural competence of students.
