FORGIVENESS AS A CULTURAL TRAUMA THERAPY
Abstract:
The article discusses the therapeutic potential of pardon in respect of traumatic historical events and figures, which are associated with the names of these events. The theoretical basis of the possibility of such approach is the study of Forgiveness in the west (first of all - in the U.S.) psychology and psychotherapy, demonstrated the presence of a therapeutic effect by improving the overall physical and mental health, reduce anxiety, reduction of the rates of depression and anger, improvement of self-esteem. The author applies the concept of cultural trauma (J.Alexander, P.Sztompka) to the analysis of Russian history and offeres a way to heal traumas of historical consciousness through the forgiveness of their «historical fathers». Used data from studies in the framework of a new trend in psychology - makropsihology (A.V.Yurevich and others), who noted a negative psychological state of the Russian society. One of the factors of mental illness is an internal inconsistency and fragmentation of historical consciousness of modern Russians. Reconciliation through forgiveness - it is the civilized way to the attainment of national harmony and inner peace.
