Formation of Multicultural Competence of high School Students Within the Framework of Physical Education

Abstract:
The article analyzes the problem of developing high school students’ multicultural competence within the framework of physical education. The relevance of this direction is substantiated in the context of globalization and increasing intercultural interactions. Based on a theoretical analysis of psychological and pedagogical sources, the concept of multicultural competence is clarified, and its structure and criteria for formation are determined. Within the framework of a pedagogical experiment, a program for developing multicultural competence through physical education was designed and tested. The aim of the article is to justify the potential of physical education in fostering multicultural competence among high school students, as well as to develop and test a program aimed at promoting tolerance, intercultural interaction, and respect for cultural diversity among students. The study is based on an interdisciplinary approach, including theoretical and empirical analysis. The research employs, а cultural approach, which considers physical education as an element of social and cultural development of the individual. A competency-based approach, which involves developing key skills, abilities, and experiences of intercultural interaction through educational practices. An activity-based approach, which emphasizes engaging students in active forms of physical education that foster communicative and social competencies. The research confirms that physical education is an effective tool for developing multicultural competence, as it includes elements of intercultural interaction, teamwork, and fostering tolerance. A program integrating multicultural aspects into physical education was developed and tested, leading to an increase in students’ awareness of the cultural traditions of different nations (up to 88% in the experimental group), a reduction in conflict levels, and improved teamwork skills. It was revealed that the systematic inclusion of multicultural elements in physical education contributes to a deeper understanding of cultural diversity and the formation of a positive attitude toward it.
