Health-saving Model of the “Health Lesson” at School

Abstract:
Problem. In recent decades, there has been a steady trend towards the deterioration of children’s health from the period of study at school. Such a trend is observed in almost all developed countries. This problem has become the basis for the search for forms and methods of improving the health of students in the course of their educational activities. One of the directions of the research was the development of a special health-saving subject area – a health lesson, used both as a separate discipline and in the form of fragments of other school disciplines. Objective. To study the possibilities of a health-saving model of a health lesson at school to preserve and strengthen the health of schoolchildren. Methods. The article describes the history of the emergence of a new subject area in Russian schools – the “health lesson”, presents a methodological model for the inclusion of such a lesson in the educational process, considered in a broader aspect as a “model of a health-saving school”. Outcomes. In the process of testing the health-saving model of a health lesson (the “Know Yourself” program), it was found that 50 % of schoolchildren were overweight, 20 % of children need observation and weight correction in health groups, 15 % of children need a special examination and a certain plan for their rehabilitation, because they have a tendency to increase blood pressure. In 4 % of cases, a relationship was found between the amount of excess weight and the tendency to increase blood pressure. that 80% of children who have undergone the “PS” program have increased their self-esteem of their health, expanded children’s ideas about health and illness, and increased their level of knowledge in the field of health. Interest and positive attitude to the health lessons of the parents of students was established. The importance of the personal example of a health teacher who plays the role of a “confidant” to whom the child can entrust his problems was revealed. It was shown that the topic of health should be distributed throughout all primary school lessons, and the health-saving health lesson should be included in the general educational process. Despite a number of positive results, it turned out that the health-saving model of a health lesson mainly affects the motivational sphere of life, and does not have a significant impact on somatic processes.
