The article presents the author’s approach to diagnostics of the level of formation of the civil identity of the individual by means of school geographical education. The purpose of the article is to develop a diagnostic tool for determining the level of development of students’ civic identity based on the content of school geographical education. The research methodology is based on the application of general theoretical methods: analysis, synthesis, generalization, systematization, search for relationships, construction, as well as empirical methods: analysis of teachers’ work experience, pedagogical observation, questionnaires, modeling, graphical and tabular interpretation of data. Results of the study. The author described the criteria and indicators of the formation of civil identity, corresponding to the level of basic general education. The indicators for each criterion were described taking into account three components: ethnic (national), all-Russian and universal components. Tests and two questionnaires were developed. For each criterion, indicators of its formation were described based on the content of school geographic education for three components: ethnic (national), all-Russian and universal. For each criterion, questionnaires were developed for students, taking into account the content of school geographic education (16–25 statements and questions).
