Involvement of Parents in Interaction with the School as a Mechanism for Increasing Parental Consciousness in the Education and Upbringing of a Child

Abstract: 
The article actualizes a new meaning of the interaction between family and school, characterized by the subjective position of all participants in the educational process. The participation of parents in the educational process of a child is a mandatory requirement of the State, enshrined in law. The main task of involving parents in interaction with the school is to increase parents’ consciousness of their role in the child’s education. The purpose of the article is to analyze theoretical material on the topic of the impact of engagement on consciousness and to present the results of experimental work. In the course of the study, the mechanism of mutual influence of the degree of involvement of parents in interacting with the school and the level of their consciousness of the child’s education and upbringing was revealed. Research methodology. The cultural and historical approach made it possible to analyze the changes in the content of family and school interaction in different periods of the development of Russian pedagogy. Parental roles changed from an observer and a customer to an equal participant in the educational process, influencing the final result of schooling and upbringing. The phenomenological approach was used to identify the specifics of conscious parenting and the mutual influence of engagement and consciousness. This approach makes it possible to analyze and take into account the subjective opinions and reactions of both the participants and the organizers of the study. The concept of involvement was analyzed in terms of changes in historical and cultural reality and as an independent phenomenon. The results of the study are a description of the experimental work in which 37 parents participated. All participants were monitored for changes in the level of situational anxiety related to their child’s education, changes in the level of parenting consciousness, and active involvement in school interaction. The changes that have occurred are shown in the tables. Personal changes are illustrated by the examples of the most involved parents and the least involved parents. In conclusion, it is concluded that the level of awareness of parents depends on the activity of their involvement in interaction with the school. It is also suggested that the degree of parental involvement is inversely related to the level of their consciousness.
