Formation of Marine Specialties Cadets’ Speech-thinking Activity using Computer Support

Abstract:
Introduction. The article highlights the need to use information technologies in the process of preparing students for academic classes at a technical university, which contributes to the development of speech and thinking activities for widespread use not only in everyday life, but also for future professional activities within the framework of a foreign language component. The purpose of the article is to analyze thoroughly the means of using information technologies in the process of professional foreign language training for students of a non-linguistic university. The methodological foundations of the study include the personal-activity, competence-based, situational, and integrative-contextual approaches, which allow us to study the substantive characteristics of the methods of using information technologies in order to apply them effectively in the course of professional foreign language training. The authors pay special attention to computer support as an opportunity to obtain an information database on a specific topic of the studied maritime discipline of professional activity using English. Educational activities that play a positive role contribute to the formation of skills in two-way translation of technical texts in the specialty. In the course of distance learning of a foreign language using the Internet, the teacher promptly manages the learning process in order to accumulate, edit and store educational information for analysis, understanding and using the standard lexico-grammatical minimum in the process of communication both at the level of solving situational problems in the work of the crew on the ship and with partners from other countries. For the expeditious execution of job descriptions, the technological process is mastered, taking into account the requirements for professional activity outlined in the computer programme. In conclusion, the relevance of using computer support as a pedagogical condition is underlined, which contributes to the successful formation of cadets’ speech and thinking activities and the assimilation of professional work algorithms, taking into account the factor of foreign language communication.
