Playing Sports as a Means of Developing Professionally Important Vital Qualities in the Profession of Speech Therapist

Abstract:
This article examines the role of sports in the development of professionally important life skills in the profession of a speech therapist. A speech therapist is a speech trainer, a specialist who works with people who have problems with speech development. Specialists in this field study the causes of speech disorders, develop methods for their diagnosis and correction, and also carry out preventive work. The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that a modern speech therapist has extensive knowledge in the field of psychology, pedagogy, knows the typology of speech disorders and various methods for correcting speech defects, but such activity of the «person-to-person» system cannot work successfully only with knowledge of the theoretical component. Effective work of a speech therapist requires not only knowledge, but also developed personal qualities, such as stress resistance, the ability to quickly adapt to changing conditions, and be patient. These qualities are often formed and improved through regular sports and physical activity. The study was conducted to study the impact of sports on the development of professionally important life skills in speech therapists and to determine the effectiveness of using sports as a means of improving professional competence. Various types of physical activity were considered, such as team games (volleyball, basketball), individual sports (swimming, running), as well as fitness and dancing. In conclusion, we came to a conclusion about what components of professional suitability, and most importantly, how, with the help of sports leisure, a speech therapist can improve or even develop them with the help of sports activities. For example, team sports contribute to the development of communication skills, the ability to work in a team, and make quick decisions. Individual sports help to increase stress resistance, improve concentration and self-control. Thus, regular sports can become a valuable tool for a speech therapist, allowing not only to maintain physical health, but also to improve professional competence. We emphasize that the choice of sport should be conscious and correspond to the individual preferences and capabilities of the specialist.
