Formation of Traditional Values in the Family and at University

Abstract:
This article presents an analytical review of research conducted between 2020 and 2026 on the role of traditional family values in the patriotic education of college students, as well as an empirical study of the relationship between traditional family values, parenting styles, and the development of patriotic attitudes among modern college students. The relevance of this research is determined by government initiatives and the need for scientifically based psychological and pedagogical support for the educational process at universities. (Baikal State University, Dorzhi Banzarov Buryat State University, Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University, Siberian State University of Railways) – the specific features of traditional family values and their links with patriotic upbringing have been identified. Objective: Systematization, comparative analysis, and critical evaluation of theoretical approaches, empirical data, and methodological developments on the research problem. Methodology. Publications by Russian authors were analyzed and summarized. Categorical, comparative, and problem-oriented analysis methods were used. Results. Four research areas were identified: theoretical and methodological models of the relationship between family values and patriotism; empirical studies of correlations between family education and students’ patriotic attitudes; Study of the psychological mechanisms of transferring family values into the civic-patriotic sphere; applied research and evaluation of the effectiveness of educational practices. Methodological deficiencies are identified: the predominance of descriptive and correlational designs, a lack of longitudinal and experimental studies, fragmented diagnostic tools, and an insufficient conceptualization of the concept of “family patriotism.” Conclusion. The need for an integrative psychological and pedagogical model based on the mechanisms of internalizing family values into civic identity is substantiated. Promising areas of research include longitudinal studies, cross-cultural comparisons, and the development of valid psychodiagnostic methods. *This article was prepared within the framework of the state assignment from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation dated January 23, 2026 (No. 073-03-2026-052), titled “Family Upbringing Traditions: The Foundation of Patriotic Education for Studentsˮ.
