Technology for Developing Economic Culture in Cadets of a Maritime University through Extracurricular Educational Activities

Abstract: 
Currently, the problem of developing economic culture is the subject of extensive research discussions across a number of factors: the expansion of the maritime industry’s economic space; global political instability; the modernization of maritime transport, etc. The educational process at maritime universities, in the context of research on developing economic culture in students, occupies a central place in scientific discourse. However, research into this issue within the axiological and competency-based approaches to organizing extracurricular activities has not been sufficiently explored from a practice-oriented perspective. The purpose of this article is to develop and substantiate a technology for extracurricular activities aimed at developing economic culture in cadets of a maritime university. Adherents of the axiological and competency-based approaches based the methodological basis of the study on comparative analysis and analogies, content analysis, modeling, pedagogical diagnostics, and the results of scientific research. Because of the study, the field of concepts used was adapted to the context of extracurricular educational economic activities at a modern maritime university. A conceptual and methodological approach to developing economic culture in future maritime industry specialists was presented. A practice-oriented program was proposed as pedagogical recommendations, and specific examples of developing activities that determine the effectiveness of developing economic culture in terms of its value components were provided. The article concludes by drawing conclusions about the need to utilize the potential of extracurricular activities to develop professional competencies in economic data analysis and solving economic problems in the maritime industry.
