Role of students’ self-government in formation of their professional identity

Abstract: 
The article considers the potential of students’ self-government as a factor of the formation of their professional identity. It describes the structure of students’ self-government presented at three levels: high school, faculty, academic group. The authors give the description of the gained experience of the realization of various directions of students’ self-government in Ishim Teacher Training Institute named after P. P. Ershov (branch) of Tyumen State University and the analysis of its influence on professional and pedagogical position. Among the directions of student's self-government the most productive in the formation of professional identity are research, creative, profile group, sports and mass and information directions. The formation of professional identity is offered to be estimated on the basis of the following evaluation criteria: knowledge of the content of the professional activity, views of professional intentions (professional plans), knowledge of the subject of the professional activity; status of identity; formation of the structural components of identity (cognitive, emotional and behavioral). The article gives the diagnostic complex of studying the level of formation of future teachers’ professional identity and the results of the research.
