Mythopoetic Component of a Literary Text as a Means Developing Linguocultural Competence of Students

Abstract:
Introduction. The article emphasizes the importance of studying non-classical literature from the point of view of analyzing its mythopoetic component. The choice of the ‘Chronicles of Amber’ cycle by the American science fiction writer Roger Zelazny to improve the linguocultural competence of students is substantiated. The authors address the problem of developing students’ linguistic and cultural competence through the mythopoetic component of literary texts; this involves addressing the concepts of “mythopoetics” and “mythologeme”. A review of the scientific literature on the issue. The authors examine the concepts of “mythopoetics” and “mythologeme” and note the main types of linguistic difficulties encountered in the works of contemporary authors: the presence of personal names and toponyms containing references to mythology, descriptions of mythological models of world order, references to mythological models, and others. The conventional division of realities in R. Zelazny’s texts into those of the primary (actual) and secondary worlds (the reality of the work), as well as quantitative indicators of the representation of these realities, suggest the significance of the mythopoetic component of the text. Methodology and research methods. The study consisted of three stages: diagnostic, main and result-summarizing. The diagnostic and result-summarizing stages of the study were carried out in the form of testing. To carry out the main stage of the study, practical tasks were developed aimed at improving both receptive and productive skills of students. The result-summary stage of the study demonstrated the dynamics of changes in the level of formation of students’ linguacultural competence The results of the study. The diagnostic stage revealed a low original level of development of linguocultural competence among students. The maximum number of correct answers did not exceed 41 %. Analysis of the final testing results showed that the number of students giving correct answers increased from 41 to 52 %. From the results obtained, it was concluded that the developed methodological material has certain potential, but needs to be improved. The article analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the practical tasks used, formulates conclusions and recommendations for the development of research tools. In conclusion, the result is that the developed diagnostic materials can be used in further research and teaching practice.
