Optimization of the Training of Industry Specialists with Chinese Language Proficiency in Russia Based on the Analysis of Demand Structure

Abstract:
The deepening of Russian–Chinese cooperation and the expanding range of professional contexts in which Chinese is used have led to both growth and differentiation in the demand for specialists who combine Chinese language proficiency with sector-specific knowledge and practical skills. However, the structure of this demand and its implications for professional training in Russia remain insufficiently studied. The purpose of this article is to identify ways of optimizing the training of specialists with Chinese language proficiency in Russia on the basis of an analysis of the demand structure. Methodology and Methods. The empirical basis of the study consists of databases compiled by the authors, data on trade turnover for 1995–2024 obtained from the official websites of the World Trade Organization and the customs authorities of Russia and China, as well as materials from leading recruitment platforms. The study employs quantitative and statistical methods, classification, comparative analysis, and pedagogical generalization. Research Results. The study establishes that the demand for such specialists in Russia has acquired a structured and differentiated character and can no longer be reduced to general foreign-language communicative competence. Five main types of demand are identified: natural resource development and the extractive industries; market promotion and sales; international trade and logistics coordination; cross-sectoral translation and language mediation; and Chinese language teaching and educational-methodological support. The analysis shows that the existing training system still contains gaps between the requirements of specific job positions and the aims of instruction, course content, organization of practical training, and assessment of learning outcomes. Conclusion. The article concludes that the training of specialists with Chinese language proficiency should be more strongly oriented toward labour market needs and should be developed at the levels of goal-setting, content design, practical training, and assessment. This would make it possible to improve the targeted nature, adaptability, and professional orientation of training for sector-specific specialists with Chinese language proficiency.
