Effectiveness of student voluntary movement in terms of development of dental hygiene skills by children with visual sensory deprivation in the pedagogical process at a university

Abstract: 
At the present time, volunteer movement is a wide-spread phenomenon among young people – during studying at university in particular. Purpose: to determine efficacy of student volunteer movement in digestion of dental health habits by children with visual sensory deprivation. Methodological basis. Within the framework of the “Prevention and Public Dental Health” discipline teaching process at medical higher education facilities, students must master a certain list of practical skills which is possible through medical educative activities performed for child population. Research part. In order to perform medical educative activities for child population, a team of volunteers was formed from Institution of Stomatology students at 3-5th years of education. Associates of the Department-Clinic of Child Dentistry and Orthodontics in cooperation with the volunteers developed “Dental Health lessons” for blind and vision-impaired children using correction methods of sanitation and hygiene training and education and thereafter performed at: “Krasnoyarsk special (correctional) comprehensive boarding school of type III and IV No. 10 for blind and visually-impaired children”, “Krasnoyarsk special (correctional) comprehensive boarding school of type IV No. 1 for vision-impaired children”, MBPEI “Compensatory Preschool No. 218” for visually-impaired children. Through immediate work with children, future dentists developed skills of communication with young patients and creatively applied digested knowledge. Research results. The purpose of the research was fulfilled: practical project-oriented work under guidance of experienced teachers-dentists enhances students’ interest in the process of “Prevention and Public Dental Health” discipline learning, development of students’ communication skills and abilities, makes it possible to train higher-level specialists, promotes better social adaptation of graduates.
