Educational Resource and Functions of Volunteering Activities as a Sphere of Students’ Self-Realization

Abstract: 
The study is devoted to the educational aspects of the development of modern students in the context of their attraction to volunteer work. The purpose of this study is to reveal the pedagogical advantages and opportunities of volunteering activities as an efficient form of students’ full-fledged self-realization. Methodology. The work is based on the methodology of the activity and sociocultural approaches to psychological development of personality, as well as the theory and method of collective affairs, systems and holistic approaches to education. The study identified the main motives of students’ participation in volunteering activities, among which there are the motives of self-fulfillment and social recognition. The conditions of attracting students to volunteering are described; the leading one is social support of their collective initiatives. Using a systematic approach, the authors uncovered the functions of volunteering activities (personality development function, identification function, creative-transformative function, professional-labor function, axiological function, moral-spiritual function, humanistic function etc.). The socializing potential of volunteering is revealed; it is realized through implementation of training, educational and developing components of this activity as factors of holistic development of modern youth. The conclusion of the article summarizes the motivational factors and pedagogical possibilities of volunteering, in particular, the socializing mechanism of volunteering, namely – socially positive effect of student's manifestation of their personal qualities in the situation of disinterested and helpful actions.
